It’s raining…again. Wherever we go, we bring rain. Barcelona is no exception.
We’ve got a 2 weeks spring break. This time however instead of Madeira we decided to come to Barcelona. Actually it wasn’t me, it was the boy’s decision. The reason behind it is the Barcelona -Real Madrid game.
His dad was going there with one of his friends. But once his son told him how much he wanted to go, he quickly “dumped” his friend and decided to make a family trip out of it. Kind of nice, if you’ve come to think of it.
So yesterday we landed in Barcelona, after a brief stopover in Munich. Loved the airport, nice, bright and airy.
Was surprised by the traffic, took us and hour to get to our hotel, Grand Marina. Honestly, find it weird to have a hotel in a port, feels like we are squeezed in between two gigantic ships, trailers come and go day and night.
This wasn’t our choice, but it was difficult to find a suite at such a short notice during the game. Mind you, it is not cheap either. Most of the guests are arabs as usual, lots of families, guess they all came for the game.
Our rooms ( 2 adjoining rooms with separate dining and living room) are quite spacious, though feels kind of unfinished and finding it cold. I am always cold. For some reason I cant seem to adjust the temperature, its preset.
Bathrooms are great, towels are rough and look used. I would expect more. And as for being green…well sue me! If I decide to stay in a 5 star hotel, one of the things I absolutely enjoy is getting fresh bedlinen and towels every day. It used to be that way. Now they change the bedlinen maybe every 3-4 days, towels only if you leave them on the floor. Well, I do. I like fresh towels every day.
Evaluation of the hotel done.
After freshening up we had a walk around the Marina and had an outdoor dinner. Simple yet delicious. Local red wine, octopus salad, grilled fishes, scallops, mussels and a type of shellfish I have never had. Today I found out it is called navajas viva. M ate loads, and happily played with his peonza. A gentle breeze was blowing and had an outdoor heater behind me. Perfect.
On the way to the hotel had waffles with chocolate sauce, the best I’ve ever had. And I don’t even like it. But it smelt so delicious. Decided to end the days with waffles while here.
A stayed down, met the guy who brought over the tickets to the game and talked about real estate.
Barcelona might be good for investment purposes, but the nice places to actually live at or vacation at is Sitges or Castelldefels. He was told that Messi and Ronaldo own villas there and Ronaldo’s kid actually goes to the British school. I think it was a plus for him.
I just want to go and see it for myself. My son is quite taken with beautiful Barcelona, wants to move.
This is the first time he is actually considering leaving his school. Could it be because all his friends are leaving as well?
