Black Friday

blackfriday

Black Friday.

It is considered the beginning of the Xmas shopping season in the United States for over 80 years. This is when many of the retailers reduce their prices, up to 70% or even more, encouraging people to shop till they drop or till their plastic cards allow.

Had the chance to experience it, though I think only the light version . Not a bad idea, quite happy about it. Didn’t mean to shop, just went in to my favourite shopping mall to run some errands when I saw the Black Friday sign on the Gap store. And I love that store, especially Gap Kids.

By the time I got out of the changing room trying on quite a few items, picking up few pullovers, track suits for my son ( shopping for your kids is so much more fun, everything looks good on them, they are not worried about pants being too tight, the colour of a shirt not enhancing their skin tone, etc) found myself at the end of a queue. A long one.

Now, it is a well know fact that if I find more than 2 people ahead of me I just put down the clothes and walk away.
But I was so determined to buy the red hooded sweater for him, that I gritted my teeth and stood in line for 30 minutes. He doesn’t even know the things I do for him. :)

While waiting had the chance to observe 2 mothers with their toddlers getting bored, crawling on the floor after 10 minutes licking there mum’s boots, crying after 15 minutes, which turned into full blown temper tantrums later on.

Can anyone envy them?
The answer is obvious: me
How sad is that?

I still want one. Want those sticky tiny hands hug me like there is no tomorrow, want to see the wonder in her eyes when seeing snowflakes for the first time in her life, want to hear those infectious giggles when I pretend to be a fish , smell her milky powdery scent when bending over her crib.

Should stop. Either that or a dog.
I know,you cannot compare a baby with a dog.

But the way things are, I will probably end up with a dog. Or two. And a cat, a Maine Coon. And I will just care for the foxes, deers and squirrels in the forest as well. To fill the void.

Will I succeed? Who knows? Worth a try.

To be honest my only son keeps me busy all day. Somehow wherever he goes, strange things happen.
He is quite accident prone to put it mildly. In less than a month we visited the emergency twice.
Once he twisted his ankle when he fell off the stairs at school while playing tag with his friends during lunch break.

The most recent one was this Wednesday, when finally after 3 weeks of forced rest he was allowed to ski.
Was happily watching him, thinking I should videotape him and send it to his Dad, when he fell.
By the time we got home he couldn’t walk, was back to hopping on one foot.
I couldn’t believe it.

Could this be because he is just careless, not paying attention? Or maybe is it in his genes?

I remember his Dad telling me that he broke almost all his bones while growing up. OK, a mild exaggeration.
He told me once, that they were on the way home from the hospital where they’ve just put plaster on his arm when he jumped out of their car and broke his leg as well.

Thought he was joking at that time, now I know better.

The upside of these accidents is the extra time we get to spend together. Stolen, precious time, just the two of us.

Him almost feeling guilty while sipping his hot chocolate, covered with mounds of whipped cream, instead of doing Big Write on how did they preserve food in Ancient Rome. Then we are home, and it is actually not dark yet ( the sun goes down so soon, we arrive home in pitch black darkness every day) and we still got time to play Monopoly or just select a movie and watch it.

Treasure these times. Love them, want more of them. Time goes so fast, soon he will want to spend his weekend with his friends instead of his Mum. But I still have some time till then.

Off to watch a movie. With him. And my friend, Baileys on rock.
This is my Black Friday, and I love it!!!
