Back to the real world. Still a magical one though. But we still had a fantastic day before that.
On our last day in Madeira the sun finally showed itself, even if it was just till noon.
What a change! Wearing my white linen shorts with a T-shirt and flip-flops, headed out for a walk. No arguments about how boring it is always going on the same route, no fights with Mish, just wanted to enjoy the sun on my face and clog in a few thousand steps. From Forum Madeira to the Ritz. This is the route many of the tourists take, choosing to walk towards old Funchal instead of taking taxis or the bus from their hotels.
This was our 6th time in Madeira, and every single time we walked it on our last day, the weather was amazing, bright sunshine and blue skies.
The biggest contrast you feel is in January, that is the toughest departure ever…knowing you are going back to the gloomy, dark, cold wintery Hungary…
The more time we spend there, the more I realise that we need to make friends and start socializing a bit. It is especially so for our son, we cannot expect him to spend weeks just with two grown ups, without having kids to play with.
So it was great that on the last day he met and played with Ann’s sons ( She is the Sales Manager at Palheiro). Definitely must sign him up for summer camp if we are to spend weeks there next summer.
Left with a sad heart, a bit disappointed, but the love is still intact. Guess no amount of rain could wash it away.
The most incredible autumn foliage greeted us back home. Golden yellows, rusty browns, reddish leaves of the Smoke Bushes and Cornels. The best time of the year to just walk around. Love the smell of the fallen leaves, the earthy smell, a mixture of rotting leaves, fungus, moss and smoke coming from the chimneys of the very few houses around here. Too bad it is over way too soon, up here the leaves are falling at an incredible speed.
Winter is about to take an icy grip on us, but we still have some glorious sunny days to enjoy.
The mornings are chilly, mostly foggy, but by noon we are surrounded by gold, as the sun streaks through the leaves, playing hide and seek among them.
How do I know what is the weather up here at noon? When I am supposed to be down at the city running errands?
Well, on his first day at school my son tripped and fell off the stairs twisting his ankle. Luckily no broken bones, not even torn ligaments, but he has to rest for the rest of the week and wear ankle support for quite some time.
He wanted time to spend with me.
I wanted time to spend with him.
Be careful what you wish for because you might get it.
Blessing in disguise.
