Nothing ever changes…Still raining. “It has never been like this, October is not normally this rainy, this is more like a torrential rain, weather shouldn’t be this bad even if it was December” , and more of these…That is all we hear, everywhere we go.
We don’t go to that many places, because of the rain, of course.
Saw 2 films in the movie theatre, the Mars movie and another one with Robert de Niro, the Intern I think. No good with names and titles. Was fun though, even Mish enjoyed it. The fweird thing is that they still have a break during the film. At first we thought that something went wrong, but apparently this is still a custom here.
Discovered a small place in the Forum Madeira that has really good coffee. 2 cappuccinos, a soft drink around 4 euro. Came to the conclusion again that the cheap places, frequented by locals are your best bet. After all they live here, know better.
Mish got his pre birthday gift from his Dad. Once again he kept hesitating between two sets of Minecraft Lego, Dad solved it by buying both. Not saying I agree with this, but then again it is his decision, his present. Haven’t bought anything for him myself. To be honest, throwing a birthday party for him and his friends should be more than enough. And some books of course.
Evenings spent eating out or staying in, which was the case yesterday. After trying to find home delivery menus online in English for over an hour without success, gave up and ate whatever was left in the fridge instead.
Spanish cheeses (yes, Spanish in Portugal), tomatoes, sweetcorn and Quinta do Carmo. Even made my evening tea, sipping it by the fireplace. Wished we had some firewood. Didn’t think it is necessary to order some in October. Shivering, turned on the floor heating instead.
It is not my fault that I am always freezing. Even as a child my feet were so cold that nobody wanted to be in the same bed with me in case I touched them with my icy toes. That’s me.
Cold hands, warm heart, as the saying goes.
Going out is more fun, get to interact with other people, lively atmosphere. Love people watching, and sitting at a table outdoors is the perfect place to do it.
Except when it rains. Tried to stay outside, but when you don’t need to top up your water glass anymore because it is full without you pouring any, and when the whole staff of the place is begging you to go inside, then you give in.
Got rewarded by blistered padron peppers. Deliciously spicy and a bit hot. The peppers must be added to some olive oil that is smoking hot, tossing and turning them till their skin becomes blistered and the flesh is soft. Was served with a generous sprinkle of sea salt. Yummy!
Followed it by risotto. Yes, again risotto. Did contemplate on ordering something else, but just thinking of the smooth, creamy taste of it made my mouth water. Maybe next time.
Had Quinta Da Sequeira, incredibly smooth yet full bodied and strong red wine. We tend to alternate between this and Quinta Do Carmo .
On a hot summery day I would rather have Sancerre or Whispering Angel. But then this was not a hot October night, more like a wet late autumn evening.
Did a bit of walking, tried to go up all the way to the hotel at Palheiro, had to give up halfway.
Started raining again. Had my camera with me to take some shots, didn’t want to risk my borrowed lenses to be damaged.
Rain spoils everything. Where is the amazing bright blue sky, the azure coloured ocean? Where are the crispy, sharp edges of the mountains ? Everything is in haze, no contour, no definition, just blurred lines. Can’t even take a decent picture.
Feel like Madeira has betrayed me.
I was counting on you my dear! You were my haven from harm, my shelter, my magical place. I am disappointed. I’ve had such high expectations of you. I’ve had high hopes for you! I lost you!
Raining…Madeira is crying. I am crying with you….
Ps.: I still love you
