Borough day and night

3rd of July

In all of my life I cannot recall a time when I had coffee brought to my bed. Took me 18 years of marriage, 2 years of being divorced to achieve it. Must admit, enjoyed it.
I am the one who is always serving others, preparing meals, cleaning, looking after them( the usual mother’s stuff),so it was nice for a change.
We had proper breakfast at a place called Giraffe which was about few minutes walk away from the Mondrian.
Healthy stuff for me,the usual eggs for the boys.
Next we fulfilled Mishal’s wish of going for a Shrek adventure. It was great,we enjoyed especially the 4D bus ride. There were about 10 different stops, we had to get to Shrek. It was truly for the kids, but there was one guy called Allen,he knew all the songs,I was wondering if they were paying him to be so enthusiastic?
Another new place for me was the Borough market. Just loved it so much. I was fascinated by the sights and smells…
What I saw left me in awe. Back home they are trying to convince us that organic veggies ,fruits cannot be beautiful, organic means full of worms, small and wrinkled. I knew they were lying!!!
I could have easily spent a whole day just by wondering around among the different stalls selling delicious breads( we tried the cheese straw), cheeses, wild mushrooms, seafood, flowers. Saw some gorgeous pink Astillbes that made me homesick for a while. I think that my home is one of the best places on this Earth, but that’s a different story.
Left the place with some huge raspberries, real, ripe gooseberries and with some Hibiscus and Coconut&lime salts. And with a promise to go back there again.
Lunch was at a sushi place. I kept promising my son to take him to Wasabi(a Japanese restaurant in Budapest), sadly didn’t. This time he had the experience of picking his own little dishes from the conveyor belt. He rarely gets excited about anything, but this did the trick. And I was happy to see him happy. Not my kind of place, who wants to see the thousand years old dirty pans piled up in the sink in front of you after all.
Quiet time back at the hotel, time to upload some photos, read a bit.
There was one sad moment however when I heard the familiar notes of Satie’s music.used to be my father’s favourite composer and we had it played at his funeral. Who would have thought that they will use it at the Minecraft game?
Since it’s Wimbledon time, tennis is always on in the background. Ex husband likes to watch it,luckily Mishal likes to play it.
Dinner was not an easy task.
This time as we got out of the hotel,we turned left and headed towards Borough Market again.
A promise is a promise after all.
Love this side of London. On my previous trips never been here,it is a totally new experience.
Economy must be picking up,the whole population of London and some more must have been out.
They were everywhere, sitting on the steps leading down to the bank of the river, gathering in large groups, guys in suits after a hard week’s work, young ones barely old enough to drink ,holding a pint in their hands. And yes,saw quite a lot of over 60’s ladies happily chatting away.
Had this happened in Budapest, the police would think it’s a demonstration and would ask for a permission immediately. Ok, I am being sarcastic,or maybe not?
Finally after failing to get a table at a Greek restaurant we ate at Zizzi’s,another Italian restaurant.
Kept it simple, chose the rustic pizza primavera and another with some lamb ,with a bottle of Chianti. Had plenty of leftovers to give to another homeless person, this time a young woman. Makes me said just to think of what led this woman to be on the streets.
We ended the night with another movie for kids, Home. Like I said before, traveling with a child is so much different. Different but not necessarily bad,you get to see things through the eyes of a child.
I want him to have happy memories of all of his trips. If at the tender age of almost 9 having proper fish&chips and watching movies with his Dad makes him happy, then that’s what he shall have. With a few museums in between. 😊
