Fingers crossed

Mish is at a birthday party, me trying to make good use of the 2 hours that I must spend waiting. Decided to be selfish and leave the noise behind -10 children can be incredibly noisy- and have a leisurely lunch while writing. See how far I can go.
Seems to be a nice place where one of his friend’s birthday party is being held, so finally gave in and booked it for his big day. No pressure on me, they organize everything and fun is guaranteed. In a year or two he will be too old for this anyway, so he might as well enjoy it now .
He is changing. I seem to embarrass him all the time. Hugging him or giving him a good bye kiss is a big no-no, if it was up to him he would leave me behind the minute I park the car, having the privilege of carrying his bag.
At that point I told him that I am not his maid or driver, and better get his little bottom back to the car, otherwise I will hug him like there is no tomorrow in front of his friends. Works like a charm.
Now getting to school is another problem. I don’t know what’s going on, why are all the roads, streets, paths I use are closed, being fixed, but driving is becoming a nightmare.
We set a new record this week, took us exactly 2 hours to get there, mind you it’s only 33 km from door to door.
Had enough. Been doing this for the past two years, can’t take it anymore.
I’ve got no life, living in a car, spending almost all of my time driving.
Got the number of a real estate agent from a friend and been hunting ever since.
Saw quite a few. I don’t think my expectations are that high.
2 bedroom apartment, decent size living room, in good condition. No time for major renovation, winter is approaching.
I know, it’s only September, but in the mountains gets colder much sooner. From September we are living in a misty, foggy dreamland, really like an enchanted forest.
God, how much I love it! It’s really hard, but must be practical and think of what’s best for my son. He already spends so much time in school, finishing at 15.30, than come the various extra curricular activities like tennis, ski, piano, poor thing hardly has any time to play during weekdays. He envies his cousin a lot, who even in year 6 in a Hungarian school finishes much much earlier then him.
So house, apartment hunting continued. Saw some houses in Nagykovacsi. All I noticed were the things that needed fixing, flooring to be changed, walls to be re plastered, or knocked down altogether.
Decided to give the apartments another try. The agent tried his best , but like the song says ” I did my best, but I guess my best wasn’t good enough…” he just couldn’t find the one.
By chance sitting at the hairdresser browsing through ads something caught my eye. Arranged a viewing in a minute.
In a location I’ve always loved in district 2, perfect size, overlooking a huge garden, a good spot in the underground garage was the icing on the cake. Never underestimate the importance of parking.
I need space, hate those buildings where they mention in the ads that parking is free on the street in front of it, or even worse, they make you buy your share in a garage that would require you to switch to a Mini.
Seeing the spot that belongs to that apartment in the garage I blurted out ” Wow ,so big!”
The gentleman was real funny. He quickly answered : ” Glad you like it.
Don’t get to hear it that often lately! ”
Saw it in the morning, agreed on price by lunch time. There is only one problem. A tiny one.
The child welfare authority. They must approve the purchase.
Fingers crossed….
